Ukraine is a country in Eastern Europe. It has an area of 603,628 km2 (233,062 sq mi), making it the largest country entirely within Europe. Ukraine borders Russia to the east and northeast, Belarus to the northwest, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to the west, Romania and Moldova to the southwest, and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south and southeast, respectively.

In the south Ukraine is washed by the Black and Azov Seas. The Dnieper(Dnipro) River that runs through its territory is one of the largest rivers in Europe. Cultural and economic centers are Kiev, Lviv, Odessa, Kharkov, Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv etc. Kiev is the capital and largest of Ukraine. It is the cultural centr of east Europe, rich in historical monuments, inscribed in UNESCO list – Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Saint-Sophia Cathedral and Related Monastic Buildings.
Population and ethnic groups - The population is about 45.4 million people, average population density is about 73.8 people per 1 sq. km. Ethnic groups: Ukrainians - 77,8%, Russians - 17%, Belarusians, Moldovans, Hungarians, Bulgarians, Poles, and Crimean Tatars - 4.9%.
Languages - Ukrainian (official language), Russian.
National currency - Hryvnia (UAH).
Political system - Presidential-parliamentary republic. Ukraine is an independent sovereign state (since 1991 year). The nation’s fundamental law is the Constitution. The President is the formal head of state and is elected by popular vote for a five-year term. The highest legislative body is a unicameral parliament - the Verkhovna Rada. The highest executive body is the Cabinet of Ministers.
Religion - Orthodox - 76%, Greek Catholics- 13,5%, Muslims - 8,2%, Catholics, Protestants, Jews.

Tourism - Excellent climatic conditions of the country and the mountains of Carpathians and Crimea give an opportunity to develop all the kind of active tourism while the extended seashore attracts fans of marine recreation.
There are many traces of ancient civilization culture and nation which are preserved on Ukraine territory – from ancient Kurgans, Pryazovye hill forts and Greek cities on the coastal part of the Black Sea to ancient Slavic settlements and classical architectural examples of later ages. There are many unique natural and historical monuments in Ukraine, such as: Askania-Nova, Kamyano-Stepove Prybuzhzhe, national cultural reserve on Khortytsia Island, Sofiyivsky Park arboretum, Chersonesus etc.

Climate - Ukraine has a mostly temperate continental climate, although a more subtropical and Mediterranean climate are found on the southern Crimean coast. The average January temperature in the northeast is around - 7 ° C in the southwest - 4 ° C. On the southern coast of Crimea in the winter the temperature stays positive. The average July temperature in the northwest is +18°С, in the south +24°С. The main quantity of precipitation is brought by Atlantic air masses, the majority of plain territories gets more than 500-600 mm of precipitation per year while the southern steppes gets only 250-300 mm, which is insufficiently for agriculture.
